firstly..why? if its contaminated, fair enough... usually it just needs keeping an eye on, its the easy way to tell youve got a wheel cylinder leaking. (apart from no brake on that side)

the whole system will take around a litre of fluid, including re-bleeds..and check which sort. its either dot 3 or dot 4...dont mix em up.How much brake fluid do I need to totally change it in my FORD MONDAO 4x4?
As much as it takes. First drain the master cylinder of all fluid. Use a suction device to make sure it is empty. Now fill it with fresh and clean dot 3 or dot 4 fluid. Start at the tire furthest away, and open the bleeder. Have you friend press the brake. Close the bleeder and repeat until new clean brake fluid is seen. Remember to keep the master cylinder full so you don't introduce air. Repeat on the next closest tire. Repeat until all have been done. Top off the master cylinder. You have totally changed the fluid. How much did you use? It took that much. How much brake fluid do I need to totally change it in my FORD MONDAO 4x4?
Hi there, To flush and completely change your brake fluid, I would recommend having 1ltr to hand. Without being too technical brake fluid needs to be changed at least every 2 years, the brake fluid absorbs water from the atmosphere and this affects its ability to resist compressing, brake fluid is known as being %26quot;hygroscopic%26quot; %26quot; it absorbs water%26quot; water contains O2 and when the brake fluid is beyond its best it can boil when the brakes are hot and this causes a spongey feeling or even loss of brake pedal.

It's good to see someone changing brake fluid instead of just topping up and would recommend that you 1st make sure all the bleed nipples can be loosened and tightened to ensure proper brake bleeding, start with the brake caliper furthest from the brake reservoir and make your way to the nearest, another tip, is if you spill brake fluid on your paintwork DON'T wipe with a cloth but firstly wash with plenty of water before wiping dry the paintwork, wash ANY spillages with water!

Use Dot 3 or 4 brake fluid and yes it is ok to mix, Dot 3 isn't as common nowadays and Dot 4 is more common, steer clear of Dot5.1 as this would mean the need to change componants too.

If this helps you understand brake fluid more, pour some brake fluid into an old plastic cup and add water, the fluid will turn almost whitetish before then becoming saturated with water and the more water poured into the fluid the brake fluid is less of a fluid as it takes on water, fill the cup till it over flows and you will find that you have washed away the brake fluid with water.

I do this to help the app tech's understand, it works everytime and we have had no complaints of damaged paintwork from brake fluid spillage. Sorry to be so long winded. Hope you make some sense from this. How much brake fluid do I need to totally change it in my FORD MONDAO 4x4?
