Where can I go to learn how to maintain my vehicle?

I want to be able to do most basic level maintenance for my car, a 2001 Passat, without having to take it to Jiffy Lube. I can change the oil and front brake pads and bulbs and stuff, but i want to go further (transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant, pretty much all fluids, filters, and anything else that should be checked or replaced every so often). My car manual doesn't help me out much with this and I'm tired of watching youtube videos for lessons. Basically, where should i go to become more savvy with cars? Also, i don't want to spend too much money getting the stuff needed to lift my car (jacks, ramps, jack stands, etc). What do you use that's safe and effective?Where can I go to learn how to maintain my vehicle?
You just asked this question.

You can either read a book to learn, or if you want to take a class, go sign up for a class (usually at your community college).

Otherwise you can try to find a automotive hobbyist club close to you (find internet forums for your car and see if they have local meetups) and you can participate in that community.

Jacks+Stands or ramps both serve different purposes depending if you need to work under the car or work on the wheels.

These are still the most basic car equipment to get and will still save you money compared to taking your car in for maintenance....if you actually stick to your hobby and DIY your own maintenance.Where can I go to learn how to maintain my vehicle?
AutoZone -- They have good people that can show you what you need. They rent alot of the major tools for FREE. I have always found that they usually have the best prices. NO!! -- I dont work for them -- Check it out for youself.

Also, try websites like YOUTUBE -- sometimes you can find videos of the specific repair that you are performing.

PLEASE - PLEASE -- Dont ever lay under a car without the proper jackstands.

Be adventurous, but be safe!
