New to motorcycles,so i have questions?

I currently have a 2000 honda rebel, and i have a few questions, 1. today i did my first oil change,i finished and headed home, speeding up my exhaust made like a shooting noise and my speed reduced for a few seconds,i dont know if they're related though. 2. I accidently bought dot 5 brake fluid, the bike takes dot 4,would it really matter if i used dot 5? 3. how often to i do an oil change,is it like a car, every 3 months?New to motorcycles,so i have questions?
Hopefully this will help. 1. sounds like the bike back fired. Not a problem as long as it does not continue. 2. DO NOT use dot 5. Use only 3 or 4. 3. If you use reg oil then 3000 mile or every 6 months should be ok. If you use full synthetic then 5000 miles.New to motorcycles,so i have questions?
This is incorrect. Backfiring happens during decelleration not acceleration. If it happens during acceleration it's fuel related.

1)are you sure you didnt overfill your oil. I would double check that.

2) use what is says, for break fluid its important

3) 3000-5000 miles or if it sits for a long period (like over the winter)New to motorcycles,so i have questions?
1. Its called a back-fire, if it only does it once or so I wouldnt worry about it.

2. I think the dot 5 is synthetic and you dont want to run that unless the bike calls for it.

3. Sometimes I dont ride 3000 miles a year so just make sure you do a fresh oil change every spring before you start riding.

By the way you dont have to change oil every 3 months, that is a scam by the oil companys to get you to buy more of it. OIL breaks down from heat and friction. Change the oil at least once a year or 3000-7500 miles. My car manual says 7500 miles for non-extreme driving conditions.

Read your cars or bikes manual.New to motorcycles,so i have questions?
The rebel is a small bike and it works pretty hard to maintain speed. It is very dependable but limited in it's versatility. Oil change once a year, or at about 3500 miles. If you do 3500 on a rebel in one year you are having fun because it is not an easy bike to ride for long distances. Use the specified brake fluid, remember there are only two wheels and a mechanical device between you and disaster; don't mess with the working combinations. Just as a curiosity I saw a Rebel being used in a circus as a high wire climbing bike (tires removed and a counter balance slung beneath the wire), says a lot about its dependability.New to motorcycles,so i have questions?
The sputtering noise and reduction in speed would indicate fuel issues. If the bike has been sitting for a while, it may have some bad gas in it. Rust or debris in the tank would cause this as well.

Fill your tank with the highest octane unleaded gas you can find. In my area it's 93 sometimes 100.

Don't let your tank run below 1/8th of a tank.

Always run premium name brand fuel.

Use the brake fluid that the manual says to use.

Oil %26amp; filter change every 3K miles.

Some of these know-it-all blogger will probably give me the thumbs down but I bet if you do it, it will work
